Chester’s former Lord Mayor has spoken about her pride in a new community centre, which was one of her chosen charities while in office.
Handbridge Park Conservative Councillor Razia Daniels was one of the guests of the Bishop of Chester, the Right Rev Dr Peter Forster, who officially opened St Mary’s Church Community Centre in Handbridge recently.
She said:
“I was immensely proud and honoured to be asked by The Bishop of Chester to unveil the commemoration plaque.
“This fantastic community facility is welcomed and supported by everyone. It will serve not only the local community living south of river Dee but also the wider Chester area.
“I would like to pay tribute to everyone who has worked tirelessly in the background for last three years in making this vision become a reality.
“As Lord Mayor of Chester, St Mary’s Church Community Hall was one of my three chosen charities and Cllr Sullivan and I were delighted to award £30,000 of the new homes bonus towards the funding for it.
“As well as a fully equipped kitchen, refreshment and social area it also has a state of the art projector and disabled access.”
Cllr Neil Sullivan, who also represents Handbridge Park, added:
"We are really pleased to see this project come to fruition and the Church team deserve credit for their vision and tenacity in getting the building completed."
