Upton Councillor Jill Houlbrook has welcomed the news that iGas is not proceeding with its permission to carry out exploratory drilling for coal bed methane. This decision is based on the results of the seismic testing carried out in the area.
However Jill and local Conservatives will be continuing their fight to protect Upton.
Jill said: 'The work to develop a Parish Council policy for all forms of drilling, including unconventional gas exploration must continue. We must offer protection to our residents during any future planning applications that might affect Upton.
‘It is important to me that I seek to represent all Upton residents on the issue which quite understandably has raised concerns across the local community'.
Jill is also very concerned that the current Labour administration at Cheshire West and Chester Council has not included 'fracking' on any agenda of the Local Plan Working Group. Commenting, Jill said: 'Clearly the Labour group is reluctant to tackle this issue and to build safeguards into the planning process but without a policy this authority is exposed and at risk from developers’
