Handbridge Park: New Homes Bonus Community Funds to Support Local Projects

A message from Councillors Razia Daniels & Neil Sullivan (Handbridge Park):

New Homes Bonus Community Funding for local communities has been made available by Cheshire West and Chester Council to help improve local areas.  As elected members, we have been working with local residents, community groups and local agencies to help identify key priorities for Handbridge Park, in order to attain funding for the area.

Over the past 12 months we have been consulting with local residents and groups to find out what local priorities they would like us to focus on for Handbridge Park Ward.  This has included - hosting a series of community meetings to discuss ideas and potential projects, articles featured in local publications and a number of ‘on the street’ discussions.

These discussions and meetings have enabled us to support two key projects which meet the New Homes Bonus Community Fund criteria and which will benefit the Handbridge Park ward.  These are:

1.      Dukes Drive Outdoor Project - amount awarded: £8,648 - The project includes the creation of a community sensory garden for all local people to enjoy.

2.      St Mary’s Church Community Centre – amount awarded: £30,000 - The project involves the construction of a new Community Centre for Handbridge, serving all of the Community.

These projects have been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council for final approval – A big thank you to all those who have participated.

Throughout the process, we have tried to ensure that all local groups and residents have been involved.  However, if you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail, please feel free to contact us.  It is also important to note that all bids that have been submitted thus far have been carefully considered.  Where New Homes Bonus Community Funding has not been awarded, alternative funding such as the use of Member Budgets has been sought, where possible.
